Reflective essay

Throughout my time at the University of South Florida I have gained a fundamental understanding of the Information Science field. I have had a lot of experience working with different software and applications that could all offer potential career opportunities in my future. I feel I have gained a fundamental understanding of the different aspects of Information Science, including programming and coding languages, cybersecurity and ethical hacking, as well as networking and communications. I feel these are the primary aspects of Information Science and with a foundational understanding of all of these aspects I am prepared to enter the workforce and begin expanding upon one of these aspects of Information Science.
I am most interested in the cybersecurity field as my focus and would love to pursue a career in cybersecurity however, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I’ve spent working with this material and would be happy pursuing a career in any aspect of Information Science. My focus was on security with this degree so many of my classes were pushing me in that direction. I feel very prepared to enter the cybersecurity field. I don’t know everything, however I feel I have gained a great foundation of knowledge to build off. I feel prepared because of the extensive hands-on work I have done through my ethical hacking and computer safety classes.
If I were to change anything about this program, I would cut back some of the paperwork and make it more hands-on with actual software. The most memorable parts of this program were when I was working with software and building things. This is also when I felt I learned the most. By making us use software throughout these projects it forces us to stay engaged and use active problem-solving skills. Debugging code and figuring out file transfer protocol issues were very frustrating to deal with but ultimately very educational issues to solve on my own. solving problems and fixing bugs are some of the biggest and most realistic problems in this field and dealing with those problems now has helped me learn that.
This program has taught me so much and I am very grateful. I have enjoyed learning all that I have, and I am contemplating continuing my education. My focus is on finding a job and building a career. However, this will not stop me from continuing my education and continuing to learn. This program has instilled in me the values and knowledge to be successful in my career and I am excited to see what comes next.
